Turning orphaned antique plates into original creations

Quick, hide your grandma! She's definitely not going to want to see what Los Angeles-based artist Angela Rossi has done with countless numbers of antique plates.

Creating what she calls "Altered Antique Plates" and other bizarre assembled sculptures, Angela takes items that are "recycled, abused, tossed aside, broken and forgotten about" and turns them into fabulous new creations.

In this case, authentic, orphaned and unloved antique plates are transformed into modern portrait plates you'd never expect to see with characters like Spock, Pee Wee Herman and Yoda Franklin (yep, you heard that right).

Besides using famous pop culture icons on the portrait plates, you'll also see quite a few zombies, circus freaks and animals with human features as well, like the Bearded Lady and Sir Odobenus Rosmarus, who happens to be a walrus.

Head over to LifestyleAsia to see more of the plates by Angela Rossi.
